Installing the AI Media Providers preview
This guide installs the two NuvioTV AI media providers on an Android TV device: Generated Dialogue Subtitles and Translated Voice Overlay. Both are preview packages signed with the Nuvio development certificate. Everything is installed from inside the NuvioTV app; no file transfers or command lines are needed.
What you need before starting
- A device or TV box running Android TV / Google TV (Android 7.0 or newer) with NuvioTV installed, version 0.8.10-beta (versionCode 1051) or newer.
- NuvioTV signed with the same publisher certificate as the providers. If you installed a NuvioTV build from a different source, see the signature section below.
- An internet connection on the TV. The provider packages are about 0.7 MB each.
- The TV remote. Every step works with the D-pad; no keyboard is required. For the API key, use the on-screen keyboard or paste via your remote app.
- One API key for the AI engine you want to use (see the API key section). You can install the providers first and add the key later.
Install order matters
- First: install the Nuvio AI Android TV developer preview (versionCode 1052). It defines the protected permission the providers need. If Android reports a signature conflict with an older developer build, uninstall that build first.
- Second: open Nuvio AI, go to
Settings > Content discovery > AI Media Providersand install the providers from there. The app checks the registry, downloads the package, verifies the SHA-256 digest and the signing certificate, and only then starts the Android installer. - Third: add your API key for each provider in the same screen.
Installing both providers in one session is fine. Install one, confirm it reports Signature: trusted, then install the second.
Step by step on the TV
- Open NuvioTV and open Settings (gear icon).
- Scroll to Content discovery and select AI Media Providers.
- The screen lists both providers with a Refresh registry action on top. If the list is empty or shows a registry error, see the network section below.
- Select a provider and choose Install. Progress shows download, verification, and installation stages.
- The first time, Android shows the Install unknown apps consent for NuvioTV. Select
Settingsin that dialog, switch Allow from this source to on, and go back. The install resumes; you may need to select Install again. - Confirm the Android system install prompt (
Install). A Signature: trusted status with the installed version confirms success. - Repeat for the second provider.
- Select Add API key on each provider, paste the key, and save. The key is encrypted on the device and bound to the active profile. It is never displayed again after saving.
Getting an API key
Each provider stores one credential encrypted per profile. The in-app vendor picker shows a direct Get API key link, current price hint, and any extra field the vendor needs:
- Generated Dialogue Subtitles (SUBTITLE_CUES_V1): supported vendors are Cloudflare Workers AI and Groq. The provider center links directly to the vendor console where the API key is created and shows the current price hint. Cloudflare also needs your account ID.
- Translated Voice Overlay (DUB_ARTIFACT_V1): supported vendors are Alibaba Model Studio (Qwen LiveTranslate), OpenAI, and Google AI Studio (Gemini Live Translate). Model Studio also needs its workspace ID.
The app chooses the current model for the selected vendor from the live catalog. You never type a model name. If you skip the key, install and contract verification still work; generation waits for the key.
Apple developer status
The AI provider host currently ships on Android TV. The native iOS codebase lives at Fornace/nuvio-mobile; there is no native macOS AI host yet. On Apple Silicon, Xcode can run the existing iOS app as Designed for iPad/iPhone, but Android provider APKs do not run on Apple platforms. Native iOS and macOS provider-host ports are open development work.
If something goes wrong
| Symptom | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|
| Install button does nothing, or a card says installs are blocked | Android has not granted NuvioTV the unknown-sources permission. Select Allow installs on the card, switch on Allow from this source, go back, and retry. On older TV boxes the setting lives under Settings > Security & Restrictions > Unknown sources. |
| Android installer says the package conflicts with an existing package or signature mismatch | A different build of the same package is already installed. Open Android TV settings, Apps > Nuvio Subtitles Provider / Nuvio Voice Provider > Uninstall, then install again from NuvioTV. In the provider center, an unrecognized signer warning with an uninstall action covers the same case. |
| Provider center shows registry unavailable or stays empty | The TV cannot reach nuvio-extensions.fornace.net. Check the network, retry with Refresh registry. If the TV uses a DNS filter, allow that host. |
| Download stops or verification fails | The download was interrupted or altered; the app deletes the partial file automatically. Retry on a stable connection. A repeated digest failure means the registry entry is stale; wait for an updated registry. |
| This provider requires a newer NuvioTV version | The provider needs a newer host app. Update NuvioTV first (in-app updater), then return to the provider center. |
| Verify action reports a contract failure | The installed package did not match the registry contract (version, capability, engine status, or package changed during verification). Uninstall the provider and install it again from the provider center. |
| Nothing happens when pressing buttons | The screen is fully D-pad navigable. If focus seems lost, press the back button once and re-enter the screen. No typing is needed except the API key dialog. |

Both APKs are signed with APK Signature Scheme v2 by the Nuvio development certificate SHA-256 B8B18821C3941E57EA91170A81E7CF04B3A5CF05E6BCEC9408142A87323CC7A2. These are preview builds signed for development: Android may warn that the publisher is unknown. The app itself verifies the exact certificate and digest before every install.
